Cobbs 2nd half powers Cal past Oregon St, 88-83

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) — Justin Cobbs scored 20 second-half points and sparked California to an 88-83 victory over Oregon State Saturday at Gill Coliseum.

Cobbs, held scoreless in the first half, made 6 of 9 shots from the field and 7 of 8 free throws after intermission and the Bears (12-4, 3-0 Pac-12) rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit.

Tyrone Wallace had 17 points and Richard Solomon added 15 points and eight rebounds for the Bears, who swept the Oregon schools on the road for the second consecutive season. Cal opened league play 3-0 for the first time since 2009.

Roberto Nelson led all scorers with 23 points and nine assists for the Beavers (9-7, 1-3), who suffered their first home loss in league play.

Trailing 45-35, the Bears used an 18-7 run to start the second half, taking a 53-52 lead when Wallace put back his missed free throw with 14:04 left.
