NC A&T beats Bethune Cookman from line, 70-67

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Lamont Middleton hit two free throws with four seconds left, then stole the ball two seconds later to seal North Carolina A&T’s 70-67 conference-opening win over Bethune Cookman Saturday afternoon.

The win snapped a 16-game losing streak at Daytona Beach for the Aggies, dating back to 1995.

Jeremy Underwood gave the Aggies a four-point lead by hitting two free throws with :27 left, but missed a pair 12 seconds later.

Clemmye Owens drilled a 3-pointer for the Wildcats to make it 68-67 with seven seconds left.

Bethune Cookman (2-16, 0-3 Mid-East) trailed by seven points with 33 seconds left and rallied behind a pair of Tony Kynard free throws and a 3 by Mikel Trapp.

Middleton finished with 21 points to lead North Carolina A&T (4-11, 1-0), with Richaud Pack adding 19.

Trapp finished with 18 points to lead the Wildcats, Kynard and Owens each contributing 15 points.
