Ryan Villopoto wins Supercross race at Chase Field

PHOENIX (AP) — Three-time defending series champion Ryan Villopoto won the AMA Supercross race Saturday night at Chase Field, holding off Justin Brayton in the 450 Class.

Villopoto, the Kawasaki star from Poulsbo, Wash., won a week after opening the season with a fourth-place finish in Anaheim, Calif.

A 10-time winner last season, Villopoto took a one-point lead over Ryan Dungey in the standings. Dungey was third, followed by James Stewart, Justin Barcia, Anaheim winner Ken Roczen and Andrew Short.

KTM’s Jason Anderson raced to his second straight 250 Class victory. Cole Seely was second, and Zach Osborne finished third. Anderson, from Rio Rancho, N.M., has a six-point lead over Seely in the standings.
