Western Michigan beats Miami (Ohio) 78-77 in OT

OXFORD, Ohio (AP) — David Brown had 25 points and made the game-winning free throw for Western Michigan’s 78-77 victory in overtime Saturday at Miami of Ohio.

With the game tied 77-77 and 2.1 seconds left, Brown made the first and missed the second. Connar Tava grabbed the rebound for Western Michigan to secure the win.

Tava added 22 points for the Broncos (9-5, 2-0 Mid-American). He was 7 of 8 from the field and 8 of 8 from the free-throw line. Shayne Whittington had 12 points and eight rebounds.

Bill Edwards tied the game for Miami on a leaner with 6.4 seconds left in overtime, but his fifth foul sent Brown to the line a few seconds later. Edwards finished with a career-high 24 points. It was his first appearance since a knee injury on Nov. 24, 2012.

Will Felder added 19 points and Willie Moore had 11 for the RedHawks (5-8, 1-1).
