Wust wins 1,500 at Euro Speed Skating



HAMAR, Norway (AP) — Double Olympic gold medalist Ireen Wust easily won the women’s 1,500-meter event in the European Speed Skating Championships on Sunday in another convincing demonstration ahead of next month’s Winter Games in Sochi.

The Dutchwoman won in 1 minute, 54.87 seconds — 2.15 seconds ahead of Russia’s Yuliya Skokova.

Yvonne Nauta of the Netherlands finished 2.41 seconds back in third.

The 27-year-old Wust also won the 500-meter and 3,000-meter events on Saturday.
