Letter: Evaluate options other than oil

The Columbian

Three recent explosions of North Dakota crude should cause the Port of Vancouver commissioners and staff to rethink bringing these trains through downtown Vancouver and along the Columbia River.

If that wasn’t enough, even Robert Harms, the chairman of North Dakota’s Republican Party and an energy consultant, suggested they slow down with the North Dakota crude.

I have a better suggestion.

Take those 42 acres at the port and develop a solar farm (8 megawatts of power), and develop a marijuana-growing operation on-site.

In addition, you could even take a small portion of the property and develop a beautiful wedding center for all the recent upswing in weddings in the region. It would complement the proposed redeveloped waterfront, be safe and profitable.
