Authorities say a Longview man was killed in a single-vehicle crash Friday night after the pickup he was driving left U.S. 30, crashed into an embankment and flipped over near Rainer.
Mark Ross Vanzanten, 41, was pronounced dead by emergency responders at the scene of the crash, said Lt. Gregg Hastings, a spokesman for the Oregon State Police.
Hastings said in a media release that officials are continuing to investigate the single-vehicle crash, which occurred near the Highway 30 exit to the Lewis and Clark Bridge. Hastings said troopers were first called to the crash at 11:26 p.m. Friday.
Preliminary findings show Vanzanten was driving east on U.S. 30 in a 2002 Chevrolet S10, then took the offramp to the bridge.
Troopers said the man wasn't able to navigate a sharp curve and said speed may have factored into the resulting crash. Vanzanten was not wearing a seat belt.
