Vancouver — What day is trash and recycling pickup in your neighborhood? Some people could really use a reminder. The city of Vancouver now offers that service via its website, www.cityofvancouver.us/publicworks/page/garbage-recycling.

You can sign up for a timely nudge that will reach you every week via cellphone, email or your own online calendar service (Google, iCal, Outlook). You can set it to contact you the day before or the day of collection. You don’t even need to be a city resident, just a Waste Connections customer.

“You never need to miss a garbage day again,” said Rich McConaghy, Vancouver resource manager. Incidentally, did you know that Vancouver and Clark County residents recycle 50 percent of their household trash — and when you add in fuel, asphalt and other industrial materials the overall rate climbs to 62 percent? That far surpasses the national average of 50 percent. One quick reminder: don’t recycle plastic grocery bags, which clog the equipment. Learn more at the Waste Connections website, www.wcnorthwest.com.
