Community notebook: Morales claims youth boxing title

Victor Morales of Vancouver won the 119-pound junior male championship on Saturday at the USA Boxing Junior and Youth Open in Reno, Nev.

A sophomore at Union High School, Morales scored a 3-0 decision over Virgil Ortiz of Grand Prairie, Texas, in the championship bout. Ortiz was the 2013 Junior Olympic nationals champion in his division. The junior division is for ages 15 and 16.

Morales was voted the outstanding male junior boxer at the tournament. The championship earns him a spot on the 2014 USA Boxing Junior Olympic national team.

Adult baseball teams forming

Vancouver Adult Baseball is seeking players for a 2014 wood bat baseball league.

There are several levels of competitiveness, and leagues for players 18 and older and for players 28 and older.

Luke Jensen Park in Vancouver is one of the venues for a league that includes games around Portland and at the home of the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes.

Little League signups

Listed below are in-person Little League registration events between Jan. 14 and Jan. 21. Many area leagues also offer online registration.

A baseball player's Little League age for this season is how old he will be on April 30, 2014. A softball player's Little League age for this season is how old she was on Dec. 31, 2013.

Trio win CCRC races

David Hart of Washougal, Ahrlin Bauman of Vancouver and Eric Dolezal of Vancouver won Clark County Running Club Heritage Trail races on Saturday.

Hart, 44, completed the 10-mile course in 1 hour, 6 minutes and 45 seconds.

Bauman, 40, won the 7-mile race in 43:59. Dolezal won the 3-kilometer race in 17:14. Katrina Meuller of Vancouver was second overall and the first female finisher in 19:46.

Next on the CCRC calendar is the annual Vancouver Lake Half Marathon on Jan. 26. That event is full.
