FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) — Northern Arizona football coach Jerome Souers has received a four-year extension that puts him under contract through the 2018 season.

Souers is 93-88 in 16 seasons with the Lumberjacks. His 2013 team went 9-3 and made the FCS playoffs. His 2003 team won the Big Sky Conference title and made it to the FCS quarterfinals. His teams went 17-6 the past two seasons.

The contract is pending the approval of the Arizona Board of Regents.

Souers says the extension allows his program to build the foundation to support sustainable success.

His 2013 team was ranked as high as No. 8 and finished the season at No. 15 after a first-round playoff loss to South Dakota State.
