Letter: Benton hypocritical

The Columbian
Published: January 15, 2014, 4:00pm

Thank you for the Jan. 14 story, “WA health law sign-ups among best in U.S.

During my 2012 Senate campaign against Don Benton, countless people asked me about my votes to support Obamacare implementation by Washington state. I would always answer, “It’s federal law. If we don’t implement it as a state, the federal government comes into our state and implements it for us, and we’re better off controlling it ourselves.” (My answers to the Columbian’s candidate survey went into great detail on that.)Benton attacked my votes to implement Obamacare. Attack ads pasted my head onto a picture of a doctor, hyperventilating about “Probst helping saddle us with Obamacare’s job-killing taxes.” Then, when he won the election, Benton immediately voted the same way I did. Benton voted to implement Obamacare and fund it in the state budget.I told the truth. He said whatever would get him votes, and things worked out the way they all too often do.
