ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) — Ambitious Brew held off Rangi to win the $58,000 Pluto Purse by a half-length at Santa Anita on Friday.
Ridden by Hall of Famer Mike Smith, Ambitious Brew ran 612 furlongs on the downhill turf course in 1:11.24 and paid $3.60, $2.80 and $2.10 as the 4-5 favorite.
Rangi returned $5.40 and $3.40, while Kochees was another 214 lengths back in third and paid $2.80 to show.
The victory, worth $45,240, increased Ambitious Brew’s career earnings to $167,920, with three wins in six starts.
