Delaware holds on for 74-70 win over Northeastern

BOSTON (AP) — Carl Baptiste had 19 points and 11 rebounds and Delaware remained unbeaten in conference play Saturday with a 74-70 victory over Northeastern.

Delaware (12-7, 4-0 Colonial Athletic Association) led 69-61 with 56 seconds left after Devon Saddler made 1 of 2 free throws to cap an 8-0 run. Northeastern (5-14, 2-3) answered with a 7-0 run, closing the gap to 69-68 on Zach Stahl’s layup.

Davon Usher made two free throws with 18 seconds left to put the Hens up by three and Baptiste blocked Stahl with 7 seconds left. The Huskies sent Saddler to the free-throw line where he made 1 of 2 to make it 72-68 for Delaware with 5 seconds left.

Saddler had 22 points and eight assists and Usher added 17 points.

David Walker led Northeastern with 20 points. Scott Eatherton had 15 points and nine rebounds while Stahl added 12 points and 11 rebounds.
