Letter: Critical thinking is an art

I believe having the arts in public schools is crucial. I was fortunate to attend Vancouver School of Arts and Academics for both middle and high school. There I had the opportunity to express myself in more than just the academic classes. I am now a business major at Western Washington University. Though I may not be majoring in an art field, art is still present in my life. People need to be able to be creative in all careers.

After attending college for the past four years, I have seen the impact of students who didn’t get any art electives in school. Students that I have met that had never had any sort of art exposure in school have to work a lot harder when it comes to being creative and thinking on their feet.

Do you think that the Vancouver community is putting enough effort forward to ensure that the arts are present in schools?
