Esther Short — The Vancouver Food Cooperative, a member-operated nonprofit storefront in downtown Vancouver that has struggled to survive, happily reported its best month ever in its most recently emailed newsletter. "Sales for December were the largest in the store's history, $25,000," it says. "This increase in revenue has allowed us to increase inventory in the store, particularly the produce section." In 2013, members of the nonprofit considered dissolving it but rallied instead — bringing in new volunteer energy and seating a mostly new board of directors, which hired a new store manager. The store is open to the public at 1002 Main St.
