St. Joseph’s tops Rhode Island 61-57

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Ronald Roberts, Jr. had 20 points and nine rebounds to lead Saint Joseph’s to a 61-57 victory over Rhode Island on Wednesday night.

Langston Galloway had 15 points and Halil Kanacevic scored 11 for Saint Joseph’s (13-5, 3-1 Atlantic 10) which used a 20-4 run to go ahead 51-41 with 5:35 left.

The Hawks led most of the first half but fell behind just before intermission and trailed in the second until Roberts made two free throws with 10:15 left to give the Hawks the lead for good.

Rhode Island (10-10, 1-4) trailed by eight with 20 seconds left but Xavier Munford scored five quick points to pull Rhode Island within 60-57 and 9 seconds to play. Galloway made 1 of 2 free throws for Saint Joseph’s to make it a two-possession lead with only 6 seconds to go.

Munford led Rhode Island with 16 points.
