Multnomah Falls bridge closure expected to last several months

BRIDAL VEIL, Ore. — The closure of Benson Bridge at Multnomah Falls is expected to last several months, the U.S. Forest Service says.

A large rock fell from the surrounding cliffs and damaged a 4-foot-by-4-foot section of the historic pedestrian bridge and the railings.

According to a news release the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, the agency has to find the money and issue a contract for repair before the bridge will reopen.

Visitors will be able to hike Larch Mountain trail No. 441 to the bridge. However, the popular Wahkeena Falls to Multnomah Falls loop and the Horsetail Falls to Multnomah Falls loop will not be passable due to the closure.
