NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. (AP) — Sean Armand led the way Friday night with 23 points as Iona beat Quinnipiac 95-73 and avenged a loss to the Bobcats on Jan. 6 in Hamden.

A.J. English and Tre Bowman each scored 20 points while Mike Poole and David Laury each added 10 for Iona (10-8, 7-2 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference). The victory put Iona in a three-way tie for first place in the MAAC with Canisius and Manhattan.

The Gaels jumped ahead 25-12, went into halftime with a 35-26 advantage and led wire-to-wire. Iona used a 10-0 run to go ahead 57-37 with 12:18 to play and led by no fewer than 16 from there.

Ike Azotam had 18 points and 16 rebounds for Quinnipiac (11-7, 6-3).

Despite Azotam’s effort on the boards, Iona held a 45-37 edge on the glass which broke Quinnipiac’s 49-game streak of out-rebounding opponents — which had been the nation’s longest.
