ASPEN, Colo. (AP) — Mark McMorris caught his snowboard on the lip of a rail in the slopestyle final at the Winter X Games, sending him sliding down the bar on his right side before landing hard on the snow.

McMorris stayed on the ground for several minutes Saturday before getting up and snowboarding the rest of the way down the hill under his own power.

The X Games medical staff said he had the wind knocked out of him. He was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

McMorris finished second in the event, with fellow Canadian snowboarder Max Parrot turning in the winning score on his final run.

The 20-year-old McMorris is the gold medal favorite as slopestyle makes its Olympics debut at the Sochi Games next month.
