Nebraska-Omaha defeats South Dakota 77-73

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — CJ Carter scored 18 points with five assists as Nebraska-Omaha defeated South Dakota 77-73 Saturday.

Justin Simmons had 16 points and three rebounds for the Mavericks (12-8, 2-3 Summit). Marcus Tyus came off the bench to score 12 points and Mike Rostampour added 10 points and led the team with nine rebounds.

South Dakota’s Tyler Larson opened the contest with a 3-pointer and two buckets from the paint in the first five minutes to give the Coyotes an early 8-4 advantage. They led 32-27 at the break.

But Omaha battled back in the second with a Tyus 3-pointer at 12:39 capping a 22-13 run to take the lead, 49-45. South Dakota came back to lead by six at 7:11 and the Mavericks responded with a 23-13 run to finish.

Trevor Gruis led the scoring for the Coyotes (8-11, 3-2) with 16 points. Brandon Bos added 14 points and five rebounds.
