UTEP cruises past Texas-San Antonio 81-62

EL PASO, Texas (AP) — Julian Washburn scored 19 points, hitting 6 of 7 from the field, to lead Texas-El Paso to an 81-62 win over Texas-San Antonio on Saturday.

UTEP (14-6, 4-1 Conference USA) took control of the game with a 15-6 run to close out the first half and carry a 39-27 advantage into the break. The Miners continued to pull away in the second half, taking their biggest lead of the game on a Jake Flaggert layup that made it 73-42 with 7:10 still to play.

Vince Hunter and C.J. Cooper contributed 15 points apiece, while Cedrick Lang added 12 points and seven rebounds for the Miners, who shot 56 percent from the field in giving coach Tim Floyd his 400th career victory. UTEP has won nine of its last 10 games.

Texas-San Antonio (6-12, 2-3) was led by three players with 11 points apiece: Edrico McGregor, Keon Lewis, and Hyjii Thomas.
