Letter: Time to think of the working man

Douglas Green’s Jan. 24 letter “Bring on the oil” shows that some liberal thinkers do wake up. We, the common-sense individuals, have sat back and let the liberal elite (so they think) run at the mouth about the environment, etc. In the meantime, the country has lost its industrial and competitive base.

I’ve been selling industrial equipment for over 40 years; I use to go from Port Angeles, Wash., to Eureka, Calif., and sell to lumber, pulp and paper mills, and the fishing industry, etc. All these industries are gone, or just a small percentage remain. Lost are jobs that provided people good living wages, and helped communities grow. Now, there are drug havens, and run-down cities, except where revived by becoming destinations for vacations, etc.

Even now, Kimberly-Clark in Everett and International Paper in Albany, Ore., are closed, with the loss of over 1,500 jobs, because our beloved government gave these companies “carbon credits” to close down. Thanks to our great leaders for cheating the working guy.

We better wake up and realize the squeaky wheel always get greased, and the working guy gets jerked around. These so-called environmentally conscience people have no clue.
