The man accused of assaulting a 64-year-old man in Esther Short Park was arrested Monday in Salem, Ore., according to Vancouver police.

Jason A. Hanson, 23, was arrested on an unrelated matter, but detectives are seeking to have him brought back to Vancouver related to the assault investigation, police said.

Hanson and a female suspect allegedly assaulted the man in the park on June 23 after the female asked the man for money, police said.

When the man replied that he didn’t have any, the female used an ethnic slur and hit him with a skateboard, police said. Hanson allegedly then punched him in the head and face, police said.

The female suspect, who police say is a juvenile, is in custody on unrelated charges.
