Letter: Aerial attacks from all sides

Eighty-seven-year-old Bob Rogers’ June 25 letter, “Fireworks should be limited,” sadly described damage from his neighbors’ fireworks. How outrageous that he and all who live in Clark County are subjected for weeks to bomb blasts, aerial fire attacks on homes and property, pollution of air and water, unrepairable damage, and trying to protect terrified pets. There is also the high cost of trauma and injury to police, firefighters and 911 personnel.

I personally fear my 79-year-old husband cannot endure, or will not survive, another near-fatal heart attack. The timing and relation to fireworks is obvious. My husband Ben, Clark County assessor for six terms, had the first near-fatal heart attack on July 6, 2011. He had a five-way bypass with months of care and recovery. The second major heart attack on July 14, 2013, left Ben with only 20 percent heart function.

We moved to this home on a cul-de-sac in west Minnehaha in 1985. Our fenced backyard is surrounded by 12 other homes. Starting weeks before the “Fourth” we are attacked from all sides. It is time for these “legal assaults” to stop.

The frequent unacceptable indecisions of Clark County Commissioners David Madore and Tom Mielke are an insult to all residents, and even more to competent elected officials who have honorably served Clark County, now and in the past.
