The motorcycle officer shot seven times Monday remains in satisfactory condition this morning, according to Vancouver police.

Officer Dustin Goudschaal, 32, was shot after making a traffic stop Monday about 11:30 a.m. near Northeast 162nd Avenue and 34th Street. A dispatcher told the officer that the license plate of the vehicle, a black Ram truck, belonged to a stolen vehicle but the officer didn’t respond to the dispatcher.

One of two motorists who stopped to help used the police radio to report that Goudschaal had been shot. His ballistic vest apparently saved his life.

The man accused of shooting Goudschaal, James Todd Sapp, 47, is an admitted member of a white supremacy group. Sapp has been charged with first-degree attempted murder, first-degree robbery and unlawful possession of a firearm and remains in the Clark County Jail in lieu of a $10 million bail.
