Fourth of July kicks off with pancakes

Ridgefield — The community of Ridgefield will start its daylong Fourth of July celebration with a pancake breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. at the Ridgefield Community Center, 210 N. Main Ave. Participants can take part in 5K and 10K fun runs at 8 a.m.; registration is $20 to $45. The annual parade will begin at 11 a.m. with the theme “Storybooks on Parade,” followed by local music and entertainment from noon to 6 p.m., requiring a $5 wristband.

Children can explore the kids’ area in Overlook Park or take part in the annual pie-eating contest at 4 p.m. The gravity-powered coaster cars will compete from 2 to 4 p.m. along North Fifth Avenue and Simons Street, with dancing in Overlook Park at 6 p.m. The fireworks display will be launched over the marina around 10 p.m. Viewing will be allowed east of the railroad tracks along Railroad Avenue, in the marina parking lot and on the waterfront trail.
