I often disagree with Leonard Pitts, especially his relentless condemnations of conservatives and Christians, and his unceasing arguments that the United States is a pervasively racist nation. However, I certainly agreed with his June 30 column on “Civil rights: We’ve come far, but we’re not there yet,” celebrating the importance of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. It was probably just an oversight that he didn’t mention that in the Senate, 69 percent of Democrats and 82 percent of Republicans voted in favor of the act. In the House, 63 percent of Democrats and 80 percent of Republicans voted to approve the Senate version. Hm-m-m. Just sayin’.
