One arrested in Government Island stabbings

PORTLAND — A Wilsonville, Ore., man was arrested on suspicion of felony assault today in connection to stabbings at a large Fourth of July party on Government Island.

Brandon R. Cullen, 36, was booked on three counts of first-degree felony assault.

Officers from several agencies responded to the party, according to a news release from the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office.

At 1:45 a.m., members of the Multnomah County Sheriff’s River Patrol Unit were dispatched to the west end of Government Island following the report of several possible stabbing victims.

Officers from Port of Portland Fire Department, Portland Fire Bureau, Gresham Police Department, Troutdale Police Department and Fairview Police Department also responded.

Nearly 1,000 people were partying around a DJ stage, according to the news release. Three victims, all adult males, had multiple stab wounds and were transported to Legacy Emanuel Hospital. Names of the victims were not released. Two were described as being in stable condition, with a third suffering more serious injuries.

Lt. Travis Gullberg said there were no other persons of interest, but the investigation was ongoing.
