Stolen fiber optic cable worthless as metal scrap

PORT ORCHARD — Whoever cut 200 feet of cable from an underground vault Monday near Port Orchard probably hoped to sell it as scrap metal.

But, it’s worthless on the metal market because if fiber optic cable.

The Kitsap Sun reports the theft caused a TV, phone and Internet outage for about 2,600 Comcast customers. Comcast is offering a reward of $5,000 or two years of service to catch the inept cable cutter.
