Letter: Women dealt a major setback

Five conservative Neanderthals clubbed women over their heads and dragged them back decades in the ruling in favor of Hobby Lobby and other for-profit corporations that limits contraception coverage under the Affordable Care Act. It’s not a surprise to me, merely another example of the conservative misogynic view of women. Under the veil of “religious freedom,” they have stripped hard-working women of the right to make their own decisions regarding their bodies and reproductive health.

I offer these expert opinions from renowned Republican “biologists”: Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis.; Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa; Republican Gov. Jan Brewer of Ariz.; Rep. Todd Akin, R-Mo.; and former Arkansas governor and presidential wannabe Mike Huckabee.

“The method of conception doesn’t change the idea of life.”

“I just haven’t heard of that being a circumstance …” regarding rape-induced pregnancies.

“Life begins from the first day of the last menstrual period of the pregnant woman,” states the Arizona bill signed into law.

“If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.”

Speaking on the upside to pregnancy after rape: “Ethel Waters, for example, was the result of forcible rape.”

To all women out there: If your doctor decides that an IUD is your safest choice for contraception, or if you suffer the horrible violence of rape and need the Plan B pill, call your boss first to see if you’re covered.
