A mobile slaughter truck’s fuel system was damaged, possibly by animal rights activists, sometime last week.
On Monday, someone anonymously posted on the website for the organization Bite Back, which supports the animal liberation movement. The poster claimed to have sabotaged a truck at Wards Custom Meat in the Lewisville area north of Battle Ground by putting a chemical abrasive in the fuel system. According to the website, it was done as “an act of solidarity with the pigs and cows that are slated to be killed by this company and with all the victims of animal agriculture.”
The butcher shop’s owner, Terry Ward, said that he had sent the mobile truck to slaughter beef on Tuesday, July 8. The truck later began smoking and was pulled from service, but he didn’t think that anyone had intentionally damaged the truck, so he hadn’t reported it to police.
“I just thought we had some bad fuel or something was happening to my truck,” Ward said.
