EUGENE, Ore. — Murder charges have been filed against a homeless man accused of starting last week’s fire that killed two men in Creswell, Ore.
Sgt. Carrie Carver of the Lane County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday that 42-year-old Eugene Whitehall was booked into jail on charges of aggravated murder and arson.
The charges come a day after authorities said two bodies were found in the rubble from the July 16 blaze that burned down a two-story home located on a working farm.
The victims were 65-year-old Dennis Michael Kelley and 69-year-old Carl Robb McFarland. Carver says both men lived on the property.
Carver says Whitehall knew the men, but declined to provide details of the relationship.
