Letter: Suggest a swap

I read the July 21 editorial “Sound bites vs. solutions: Congress must stop grandstanding and work to address immigration crisis.” Is that the “compassionate conservative” viewpoint we are always hearing about?

I think I have a real solution to the problem that the editorial addresses regarding the 57,000 migrant children from Central America crossing our border. There must be 57,000 people in the U.S.A. who would like to live in a country where everyone is armed and in favor of “open carry.” Why not take the money that House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, wants to spend on repatriating the children from Central America and use it to send 57,000 “volunteers” to Guatemala, San Salvador and/or Honduras. We could do as Boehner suggested and send them by bus along with medical and psychological professionals to see to their every need. We could have fundraisers featuring guns as prizes to help defer their expenses.

If they don’t want to go to Central America, we could send them to any number of countries in Africa or Asia where everyone has a gun and proudly displays it. Or maybe Kennesaw, Ga.

A win-win. Any takers?
