Letter: Cruise drives home nostalgia

Watching the Cruisin’ the Gut on Main Street on July 19 brought back 60-plus years of nostalgic memory. That 1949 Merc with its molded hood looked at least as good as mine did in the early 1950s. The 1951 Ford, though a different model, reminded me of my then-new Sea Island blue coupe from Grandy Motors, where Bill Marshall was a young salesmen. Marshall later owned Bill Marshall Ford.

Usually on Saturday nights we’d angle for a spot in the front row at the Spic-N-Span with one of their 35 cent deluxe cheeseburgers and watch the parade of cars. The only difference then was the quieter music and mufflers. The Vancouver police motorcycle cop made sure of that when he was around.

If both the cruise and I are around next year, we’ll be together again.
