Community notebook: Fort Vancouver CrossFit team places 24th at national event

CrossFit Fort Vancouver placed 24th among 43 teams at the CrossFit Games that concluded on Sunday in Carson, Calif.

Making its sixth consecutive appearance in CrossFit’s world championship event, the team from Vancouver placed second in two of the 13 events to highlight its performance.

Members of the CrossFit Fort Vancouver team included Adam Neiffer, Bryan Weed, Allan Dunlap and Jessica Core of Vancouver and Portland residents Andrea Roozen and Erin Taylor.

Jerome Perryman from CrossFit Fort Vancouver placed second individually in the division for men ages 40-44. Nathan Loren placed eighth in that division. This was the first time the two competed as individuals after being key members of CrossFit Fort Vancouver teams, including the team that won the 2010 team championship at the CrossFit Games.

Dawn Sibilia of CrossFit Fort Vancouver placed seventh among women ages 45-49.

Almost 600 finish Lacamas Half Marathon

Zachary Dulabon of Vancouver won the Lacamas Lake Half Marathon on Sunday in Camas.

The 18-year-old finished the 13.1-mile race in 1 hour, 16 minutes and 34 seconds. He was 4 minutes and 26 seconds faster than runner-up Dave Caldwell of Vancouver.

The women’s race was close at the finish as Katie Ludahl of Vancouver got to the line three seconds ahead of Margaret Van Dyke of Portland. Ludahl finished with a time of 1:29:10.

A total of 589 runners completed the race. A list of top men, women and masters finishers is in the Community Sports Scoreboard.

An additional 281 runners completed the 5-kilometer race that accompanied the half marathon. Jonathan Coleman, 17, of Troutdale, Ore., won with a time of 20:21, one second in front of Camas resident Nick Carter, 15. Rachel Blair, 12, of Camas, was the first female to finish the 5K run. Her time was 22:46.

• James Breen of Vancouver won the July 23 installment of the Clark County Running Club series of Wednesday evening runs. The 18-year-old finished the Round Lake 3-mile Trail Run with a time of 18:31. Chantalle Blundell, 20, of Vancouver was the first woman finisher. Her time was 20:52. A total of 90 runners finished the race.

The series returns to the same course on Wednesday. The race begins at 7 p.m. Participants should arrive by 6:40 p.m. to register.

Weightlifter places 21st at nationals

Aubry Jones of Vancouver placed 21st in her division at the USA Weightlifting National Championships.

Jones’ two best lifts totaled 149 kilograms (about 328 pounds) during the July 18 competition at Salt Lake City. The 28-year-old set a personal record in the clean and jerk by lifting 82 kilograms (180.8 pounds). She completed a 67-kilogram snatch (147.7 pounds), but failed on her attempt to lift 70 kilograms.

Jones competed against women who weigh about 128 pounds or less. She entered her first weightlifting competition early this year and qualified for nationals at her second meet.

Spartan obstacle race Saturday in Washougal

Thousands of competitors from across the United States are expected to participate in races during the Spartan Pac West Sprint at Washougal MX Park.

Elite men will kick off the obstacle course racing at 7:30 a.m., followed by elite women at 8:30 a.m. Other categories of competition continue throughout the day.

Registration closes Tuesday at www.spartan.com. Cost to participate is $100.

The course is approximately 4 miles long.

Tickets for spectators cost $25 on site (cash only), and parking is $10 (cash only).

Courthouse Crit results listed

A total of 153 cyclists, most of them from the Vancouver-Portland area, participated in the Vancouver Courthouse Criterium road races on Sunday in downtown Vancouver.

The Oregon Bicycle Racing Association event included five men’s races, three women’s races and a junior race. Top finishers are listed in the Community Sports Scoreboard. To learn more about OBRA racing, visit obra.org.

Soccer team wins California event

With two wins and two draws, a girls soccer team from FC Salmon Creek won its division at the Pleasanton Rage College Showcase in Pleasanton, Calif.

The FC Salmon Creek Nemesis 98 played in the Super 2 flight of the tournament, which took place July 18-20. Their four opponents were from Southern California.

The FCSC wins were 3-0 over Pateadores and 2-0 over Strikers FC. The ties were 3-3 with Slammers SC and 0-0 with West Coast FC.

Playing for FCSC Nemesis were: Morgan Winston, Mikaela Winston, Morgan Cannon, Madison Early, Aimee Kurfurst, Kendyl Soom, Marley LeFore, Grace Eversaul, Molly Beaman, Megan Sawyer, Kelly Johnson, Ashley Carter, Hannah Taie, Bre O’Neil, Ellie Echeverio, Julie Williams, Sabine Postma and Angelina Krawczyk. The team is coached by Michelle Pillette and Dan Macaya.
