Letter: Deny bullies your fear

Victims of bullying are two to nine times more likely to consider suicide than non-victims. People should care about this fact because what if there was a kid who was going to find the cure for cancer but he committed suicide because of bullying? I think no one should want to die, which is why no one should be bullied.

One solution to the problem of bullying is to stand up for yourself and others or to tell an adult. Bullies feed off fear. If you can show you’re not afraid, they will leave you alone.

Another solution to the problem of bullying is for people to stop listening to what bullies say. Bullies want to “spark a reaction,” so to speak. If you react to what they say or do then it gives them the attention that they desire. If you ignore them, they don’t get the attention they want and they may leave you alone.

No one should want to kill themselves and no one should be bullied. I want and hope everyone will stand up to bullies — do it for yourselves and for others.
