Letter: Positivity makes for a better world

I took offense at two letters published July 25.

One was Larry Little’s letter, which said, “Religion has caused suffering, harm.” I am thinking he was one of the kids in school who told others there was no Santa Claus, Easter Bunny or Great Pumpkin. Hope is what some things are called, not necessarily religion. I want to believe I will see loved ones when I leave this Earth. Some things have shown there is a heaven or an afterlife and if I choose to believe it, Little will not make me think otherwise. Prayer is sometimes all people have to get them through the hard times, and if that works for them, Amen.

As for Marilyn Tyrrell’s letter “Switch out programmed greetings,” I cannot believe that she is offended by a simple greeting of “Have a nice day.” I am only offended if someone ignores me or is busy talking to someone else, when clearly I am hoping to find a person to help me. In today’s world, where you have so many people who get offended over slight things, it is sometimes hard to know what to say.

I worked in the service business and I feel a smile always makes people feel better but I am never offended if what they say is a nice, positive message.
