Bagley Downs — Vancouver-based Free Clinic of Southwest Washington recently received a $2,000 grant from Safeway Inc. that will help provide diabetes medications and supplies for its low-income patients. The Free Clinic’s diabetes program helps newly diagnosed diabetes patients stabilize their blood sugar levels through medication management and regular blood testing. Patients receive monthly medications, a free eye exam, free lab tests and custom orthotics if needed; the Free Clinic also helps patients find primary care settings, where they can get ongoing care. The program served 30 to 35 people per month in 2013 for free, saving each person approximately $40 per month.
