Letter: Conviction of faith expressed

In response to Larry Little’s July 25 letter “Religion has caused suffering, harm,” may I offer that the word “religion” itself is inanimate. As with almost everything on this planet, people make the difference, whether it be good or bad. People, following their chosen beliefs of expressing love, peace, compassion and tolerance, are the ones who admirably animate themselves to spread joy, enormous charity and bring no harm.

It’s the maniacal, piously pretending zealots who wreak havoc, spread hate, and produce the sufferings of war to advance their legacy of power over the masses. Equally evil, void of any piety, non-religious despots Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot spread death discriminately in the same horrific way.

Little questions faith, citing it as accepting something unseen as fact, when in reality faith is an unquestioned belief with complete trust and confidence, thus, “leap of faith,” not fact. The extension of this faith is through prayer. Isn’t it a wonder that when taking a breath of air in the morning that cannot be seen, we have faith it will be there?

I am a reborn Christian, having accepted my Savior after I lost a son. This transforming step changed my life for the better. I now have faith that a pathway is open for me to be reunited with my son when the time comes, and for Mom and Dad, too.
