Letter: Newspapers not polluters

The Columbian
Published: June 1, 2014, 5:00pm

I object to taxing the newspapers of Clark County. Newspapers are not a major polluter in Clark County. Since Jan. 1, I have picked up 400 aluminum cans for SHARE of Vancouver during my frequent walks in my neighborhood. The majority are alcoholic beverage cans. Many food wrappers and soft drink containers also end up in the streets, but not one single newspaper. So if you must tax someone, tax people purchasing alcoholic beverages.

Newspapers are important to any democratic society and the founding fathers of our country recognized the importance of access of information to our citizenry. Please do not inhibit us from getting information.
