The health of a Vancouver woman critically injured last month in a head-on collision is improving.

Alexis Bennett, 27, was taken on May 25 to a hospital in Bend, Ore., after the westbound 2011 Chevrolet Aveo she was driving was struck head-on by an eastbound 2000 Ford pickup on Highway 26 near Madras, Ore., according to Oregon State Police. Police said the pickup crossed the highway’s centerline, possibly after one of its tires blew out.

Bennett was listed in serious condition Tuesday evening, upgraded from critical condition.

Her two passengers were taken by ambulance to a hospital and later discharged.

The driver of the pickup, Danielle M. Thompson, 39, of Redmond, Ore., was evaluated at the scene for minor injuries, police said.
