OREGON CITY, Ore. — A prosecutor says a man on trial for killing his mother and nephew in Lake Oswego had mental health problems but was lucid and acted with intent when he shot them.
But his defense attorney says Adrien Graham Wallace suffered a psychotic break that was a long time in the making.
The Oregonian reports that Wallace has made an insanity defense in his trial, which began Wednesday. A mental evaluation found him fit to stand trial.
Wallace is accused of shooting 71-year-old Saundra Sue Wallace and 16-year-old Nicolas Brian Juarez.
Prosecutors say a perceived slight touched off a rampage in June 2012. Wallace is accused of using a high-powered rifle to shoot his mother five times, and his nephew 12 times.
He could face the death penalty.
