Letter: Tighter regulation eliminates fraud

Apparently an $8.6 billion cut in food stamps may seem like a monstrous cut. However, in reality, it calculates down to rather than receiving $1, one would receive 99 cents. That’s only 1 percent of $860 billion. The U.S. Farm Bill was $952 billion, and think about it — if $860 billion of that goes just for food stamps, what does that leave for farm services?

As a business that takes food stamps, it is disheartening to see how many people are receiving food stamps that should not be needing them. If recipients can drive $20,000 to $30,000 cars they may not be that needy. We also find customers with multiple cards and very high balances. No investigation is required to extend their benefits. No photos or names are shown on EBT cards, so it is questionable if the card they are possessing is even theirs.

We need tighter rules on food stamps.
