Letter: Time running out on hope

Another shooting, this time at Reynolds High School in Troutdale, Ore. It is becoming a nearly daily occurrence. American society and its political system have failed to deal with the three main issues — timely mental health care, sensible gun regulation, and the proliferation of violence in the media and popular culture.

I would like to ask each member of Congress who refuses to address these issues what he or she is waiting for. Are you simply hoping that no one you love is going to get hurt? Hope is not a strategy, and in time the chances are good that we will all eventually be affected.
