A Clark Public Utilities worker was injured Friday morning when a tree fell on his truck on state Highway 500 east of Vancouver, according to Washington State Patrol Will Finn.

The incident, reported about 11:15 a.m. east of Northeast 162nd Avenue, temporarily blocked eastbound lanes of the road.

Troopers reported that the utilities crew wasn’t working in the area. Several trucks had been driving to Camas; the first three vehicles created a wind draft that caused the rot-weakened tree to fall on the last truck in the convoy, Finn said.

Jason Shefchek, 26, of Battle Ground had glass in his eyes and was taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center, Finn said. He was not listed in the hospital’s directory Friday evening.
