Letter: Gun rights backers awfully quiet

The National Rifle Association and Second Amendment junkies have been very quiet about the gun violence and killings in Santa Barbara, Seattle and Troutdale. Why? Could they be wrong?

The Second Amendment junkie who said his rights were more important than a dead child, and NRA president Wayne LaPierre’s statement about a bad man with a gun can only be taken out by a good guy with a gun are just a lot of baloney.

A brave young man in Seattle stopped the gunman with nothing but courage and pepper spray; wow, no gun needed. As for the Marine who stopped a robbery with his gun; he had tours in a combat zone and training.

Let me be clear. NRA leadership and Second Amendment junkies need to stand proud and defend their beliefs; if God forbid, one of their children is killed by gun violence. I still haven’t heard of any gun rights believers running to the sounds of gunfire to save anyone. Oh, but they take pictures with guns at Taco Bell, McDonald’s, etc, etc.
