Letter: Hiring proves costly

The June 4 story reported “County to pay $250K to settle worker’s discrimination lawsuit.” Commissioners David Madore’s and Tom Mielke’s illegal hiring of their buddy Sen. Don Benton, R-Vancouver, as environmental services director has cost the county’s insurance and eventually the taxpayers $250,000. In this settlement, the county does not admit any wrongdoing. They should not have to pay that money; that money should be coming from the two people responsible for the illegal hiring of their buddy rather than following hiring practices that left Anita Largent, the person who was filling in, no chance of bidding on the job, which she was probably more qualified for. If I cost my company $250,000, I can assure you I would be looking for new employment. We need to get all three of these people out of office, in my opinion.
