Volcanoes win sixth straight, top Bellingham in OT

Vancouver wins 139-137 to end Slam's 12-game win streak

The Vancouver Volcanoes are marching into the International Basketball League playoffs on a hot streak.

The Volcanoes won their sixth game in a row, while knocking off 2013 IBL champion Bellingham 139-137 in overtime on Sunday at Whatcom Pavilion in Bellingham.

The Slam, which has clinched the top seed for the IBL playoffs, had its 12-game winning streak stopped. They finish the regular season at 13-3.

Andre Murray scored a game-high 37 points to go with 10 assists for Vancouver (12-4), which has one game to play before hosting the IBL playoffs.

Five other Vancouver players scored in double figures on Sunday: Calvin Hampton with 29, Cory Largent with 22, Cedale Doyle and Brian Morris with 15 each, and Kevan West with 10.

Morris Anderson led Bellingham with 30 points and 13 assists.

The game was close throughout as there were 20 lead changes and 17 ties. Vancouver led by as much as 14 points at 97-83 in the third quarter.

The Volcanoes close out their regular season at Portland on Tuesday at Eastmoreland Courts. The same two teams will then play in an IBL semifinal on June 28 at the O’Connell Center.
