Harney Heights — Bill Allman of Vancouver was honored recently in the state Capitol for his work on behalf of veterans.

Allman is with Washington’s Health Care Authority, and his local office is at 5411 E. Mill Plain Blvd. He piloted the use of government databases to ensure that veterans and their spouses seeking state aid were aware of their federal veterans benefits.

The goal is to transition veterans receiving Medicaid and other state benefits to the Veterans Affairs health care system and other federally funded benefits and health care services.

Earlier this year in Washington D.C., the VA presented the Abraham Lincoln Pillar of Excellence Award to the Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs, one of the partners in the state program.

On June 13, Washington held its own celebration in the reception room at the state Capitol in Olympia. Allman received an award from Michael Murphy, head of the VA’s regional service network.
