HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) — A suburban Portland police spokesman says a 58-year-old bicyclist who collided with a light rail train suffered serious head injuries Thursday night.

Hillsboro Lt. Mike Rouches says the man was riding southbound on the sidewalk of Southeast 10th Avenue when he ran into the side of a westbound train. The man was not run over by the train but fell onto the roadway.

He was taken by ambulance to a Portland hospital. The man’s name was not immediately released.

The train stopped. No one on board was hurt.

The TriMet transit agency was busing riders around the area while the collision was investigated.
